Oxytocin
Oxytocin is a nonapeptide of nine amino acids with an internal disulfide bridge that closes six of them into a ring, leaving a three residue tail. It was sequenced and synthesised by Vincent du Vigneaud, work that was recognised with the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1955 and made it one of the first peptides ever produced synthetically. It is supplied as a lyophilized powder in a sealed vial. Each lot is tested by an independent laboratory and the certificate of analysis is published for the lot supplied.
